Austin Moratorium on large homes "Citizens across the city have expressed concern about the impact of larger new homes being built in established neighborhoods with aging infrastructure. In response, the City Council has adopted interim development regulations that limit the size of some new single-family residential construction and remodels. Under the interim regulations currently in effect, people wishing to build or add on to a single-family home, duplex, or secondary apartment may still do so. The interim regulations do not prohibit new construction or remodels. The regulations limit the size of new and remodeled structures and establish new minimum front yard setbacks. The council passed the rules unanimously on first reading, which means they will have a chance to tweak the rules before voting on them again next Thursday on second and third readings.
