I bought a wrecked 1975 Norton Interstate in July 1976 from E&H Motorcycles in Spartanburg, South Carolina. As I had been riding Japanese bikes with left hand shift, and the guys I was riding with were riding mostly European bikes - Nortons, Moto Guzzis and Ducatis - this seemed like the ideal bike since it was Yurropeean and had left side shift. And it served me well for over almost 10 years. These first two pics are after a paint job and mechanical rebuild. Thanks to friends' generosity, I had several exhaust systems. I think the first pic has a Dunstall system. But the Norton broke them all sooner or later!

This was the final incarnation. A salvaged BMW R90S fairing with custom mounts designed by me, but executed by Ted Gillingham. ABC exhaust. Quarter-turn throttle. Custom leather seat by another friend. British racing green frame; appliance white upper, black stripe, and metallic grey lower.

I put lots of quality miles on this bike. It was my only transport for 4 or so years. But those years were in Clemson South Carolina, with easy access to the western North Carolina mountains and when I was riding with the Clemson Cafe motorcycle club. I made the mistake of selling the bike around 1986 after I moved to Atlanta. I wish I had it now!
